    hello wwmls

Paying a homage to the 41st anniversary of the first message sent from UCLA to Stanford’s Research Institute which ultimately became the Internet, the Global Real Estate And Technology Consortium (GR8C) sent the first message from one of its servers in Seattle, Washington (US West) to another server located in Arlington, Virginia (US East) last night at approximately 9:00pm EDT during a public demonstration in Orlando, Florida at the Universal Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The historic first message sent was, “hello wwmls”. WWMLS stands for World Wide Multiple Listing Service, a secure network for accredited OpenMLS Registrars for providing an open real estate mls service to the public worldwide. The messaging protocol was sent over a new internet registered port, 32811, and new protocol called Real Estate Transport Protocol (RETP).

In addition, a second demo message with “hello wwmls” was sent to a server in Singapore (Asian Region) from a server in Seattle, Washington (US West) and arrived at the asian server approximately 10:30pm EDT which exactly marked the 41st anniversary of Arpanet.

In conclusion, last night’s demonstration of using the Internet for global messaging for the Real Estate Industry was a success and is a confident step towards a future, open multiple listing service worldwide.

Future demonstrations will involve complex messaging formats, messaging handling, and attached binary files within the message payloads.

    –Corey

Note: The message demo for the US West to EU West was attempted but later dismissed due to possible network congestion, firewall issues, or facility hosting issues. This demo will be addressed again in the next public demonstration.
